Like a River (Relax & Go with the Flow) : Day Eleven of a Poem a Day

“Write a poem that begins with the last thing you can remember someone saying to you today or yesterday. See if you can use that line two or three times. “

“Just relax and go with the flow,” he said
(as though I were a river in need of guidance).
I’m not a river, but rather, a human being,
one who does not flow, one who does not relax
when being compared to green beans and broccoli.
(“Like a vegetable,” she said,  “just sitting here like a vegetable.”)

“Just relax and go with the flow,” as though I’m not a bullet
in the gun about to be fired off and shot out like a blast.
As though I’m not a ticking time bomb under pressure.
I’m not a bullet in a gun about to be fired off and shot out.
I’m not a ticking time bomb under pressure.
(“Like a vegetable,” she said, “just sitting here like a vegetable.”)

Sometimes, it all gets overwhelming, and all you can do is
just relax and go with the flow like a river.
Sometimes, it all gets too much to bear, and all you can do is
just relax and go with the flow like a river.
Sometimes, you just need to relax and go with the flow.
